Winter Warmers Crafts Workshops: Crafts that foster creativity and connection. Come and learn from master craftspeople. Proposed dates for 2024 are 27 July and 3 August, workshops are likely to be similar to what was offered in 2023. Our winter 2023 workshops were:

  • Fabric Print Making
    • 22nd July 2023 – Join Printmaker Lisa Feyen from Ink Moth Print Studio for a play with pattern printing on fabric, suitable for beginners and mixed abilities. After the workshop you will go home with your own designed and printed tea towel, a printing block to keep and a satisfying pile of printed pieces for your sewing projects. (Cost for materials will be $15)
  • Dried Flower Wreath
    • 22nd July 2023 – Tutored by Jo-anne Doig who is trained in horticulture, craft and floral design, you will learn how to weave a hazel wreath and decorate it with a range of dried flowers and foliage. (Cost for materials will be $30)
  • Macramé
    • 22nd July 2023 – Join Tania and Sharon and learn the therapeutic historic knotting techniques of Macramé. Using 100% cotton cord you will learn and practice a few different macramé knots then move on to create a beautiful macramé plant hanger to take home with you. (Cost for materials will be $15)
  • Stone Carving
    • 22nd July 2023- Master carver Marcus Helmore will guide you through the art of stone carving to create a simple bird sculpture from beautiful Oamaru stone, for you to take home. Marcus has been a Stonecarver for over 30 years and has had many exhibits of his fine work during this time. Students may want to bring protective eyewear and gloves. (Cost for materials will be $50)
  • Weaving
    • 22nd July 2023 – Te Kaahurangi Maioha will introduce you to mahi raranga/flax weaving through its tikanga/protocols pertaining to its application. You will complete a woven taonga – a kete or creative art piece. (No extra cost for materials)
  • Needle Felting
    • 29th July 2023 – Sabine Laakman will show you how to bring wool fleece to life using needle and foam. A fun and rewarding class for beginners and advanced alike. (Cost for materials will be $18)
  • Wooden Spoon Carving
    • 29th July 2023 – Carve your own unique wooden spoon from gorgeous Totara Wood with Mike Caris. (Cost for materials will be $15)
  • Ink and Resin Creations
    • 29th July 2023 – Cameron Laubscher will invite you into the world of creation using inks and resin. You will create your own set of coasters and Cameron will demonstrate the pouring of the resin. (Resin pouring will be done after the workshop due to health & safety reasons; Coasters will be available for collection after the workshop date) (Cost for materials will be $15)

Cost: $120 includes morning tea and tuition. Materials costs are extra dependent on the workshop, and are payable directly to your tutor on the day.

Please note for any cancellations workshop fees are refundable less a $50 administration fee.
